Music Store and Author Will Visit

Fox Lake’s Bunny Berigan Jazz Jubilee

When the bands kick off at the Fox Lake’s Bunny Berigan Jazz Jubilee on Friday, May 16th to Sunday, May 18st there will be more than music happening in Fox Lake Wisconsin.  The event is going to be the weekend home of Triangle Jazz from Kansas City and author Robert Dupuis who wrote Bunny Berigan, Elusive Legend of Jazz.

Dick Rippey, owner of Triangle Jazz, will be bringing a virtual music store to Fox Lake.  Triangle Jazz has been in business since 1947, providing music to music lovers of jazz.  Dick will be moving over 3000 CDs into the Community Center Council Chambers in Fox Lake, along with music on other types of formats.  His prices are the same or cheaper than those in the regular music stores and he has recordings of all the favorites.  There will also be available all the CD’s of the performing bands and individual musicians at the Jazz Jubilee.  Dick is completely knowledgeable about jazz music and enjoys visiting with visitors to the Jazz Jubilee.  Triangle Jazz has the capability to take charge or debit cards and will even order special items if they are not included in the music store this year.  A ticket to the jazz event is not necessary to visit the Triangle Jazz music store and music lovers should take advantage of this opportunity to shop among the “best of jazz recordings” available.

Robert Dupuis of Grosse Point, MI will also be in attendance at the event all weekend.  Bob wrote the biography of “Bunny” and he will be available to sign copies of his book.  A special autography party is planned in the Music Store for Saturday afternoon from 3:45 to 4:45 PM.  At other times his book can be purchased in the Music Store and Bob can be located listening to the music.  Bob wrote the first full-length biography of Bunny Berigan and according the Helen Oakley Dance “it is a mine of information about that greatest of white jazz trumpet players.  Despite his tragic early death, Bunny’s accomplishments were extraordinary.  He was widely admired and much loved within his profession, and by a legion of dedicated fans who cherish his memory still.  In this year of the 100th anniversary of his birth there will be a feeling of loss and rejoicing over the music he left with the world. Bunny died at the early age of 33…..a real tragedy for the world of music.

Bunny Berigan Elusive Legend of Jazz is a book that once read will bring chills to one’s spine each and every time they hear the trumpet of that great musician, “Bunny” Berigan.  It brings a connection to Fox Lake and “Bunny” that will make everyone want to come to the St. Mary’s Cemetery on Sunday morning, May 19st,  at 11:00 AM for the memorial service at which the Bunny Berigan Memorial Band, led by the Rev. Al Townsend, will be playing.  (This special service takes place in the Cemetery to the east of Highway 33 on Breezy Point Road and there is plenty of parking available.) One will walk the streets of Fox Lake, Madison, New York and others with “Bunny” as they read this book.  The book is now in the second publishing and costs $20.00.

Without a doubt the Jazz Jubilee will offer some of the best food Wisconsin can offer.  The American Legion will have a kitchen serving wonderful hot and cold sandwiches on Saturday and Sunday, while at the Community Center food will be offered that has been prepared by the Knotty Pine Lodge of Fox Lake.  Many different choices of food will be offered from the kitchen, along with special Knotty Pine desserts.  On Sunday there will be a special turkey dinner with all the trimmings offered from 11:00 Am to 2:00 PM.  One need not buy a ticket to the event to enjoy this dinner before 12:00 noon.
