Big Band Coming To Fox Lake

Saturday Afternoon, May 17th

The Larry Busch Band will be coming to Fox Lake on Saturday afternoon, May 17th, to play in the delightfully decorated Community Center.  The band will be playing from 1:00 to 4:00 and there will be a dancing area set aside for those wishing to dance.  The band will be playing swing and ballroom styles of music, paying particular attention to the music played by Bunny Berigan and his band.

This band is a 15 piece band with the members coming from all over the South-West area of Wisconsin.  The band plays regularly in Rockford, Illinois and in and around Wisconsin.  They can be found performing anywhere from country clubs, to cruise ships, to service clubs; playing for weddings, anniversaries, parties, or ballroom dance clubs; and always with a danceable beat!

Some of the exceptional musicians in the group are Bill Schwantes, saxophone player; Monte Muller, trombone and trumpet, who is the director of bands at Lancaster Middle School and a freelance trombonist playing with many groups; Rob Shepherd, saxophone player living in Lancaster where he is the High School band director; Marty Busch, trombone, played his first New Year’s Eve gig at the age of 12 and now owns and operates Busch Music; Josh Fuchs, trumpet, presently a student at U W – Platteville; Kerry Long from Montfort plays in numerous bands including those of Larry Busch; Mark Busch, drummer, lives in Mineral Point and has drummed for 40 years with the Busch Band; Luke Busch, saxophone, resides in Fitchburg and performs with various groups around Wisconsin and in the Mid-West.

Taking the mike for some wonderful songs will be Larry Kovars and Cleo Ware.  Larry has been singing with the Larry Busch Band for over 25 years and brings a truly authentic touch to the songs he sings.  When Larry starts to vocalize, his incredibly smooth voice will take you right to the middle of the Big Band Era with songs like ‘Careless’, ‘I Cried for You’, and ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’.  Cheo Ware will keep you spellbound with her bubbly and fun personality showing through as she sings her torch songs, ‘All That Jazz’, ‘I, Who Have Nothing’, and ‘Cabaret’.

Big Band music will also be featured on Sunday, May 18th, as the Beaver Dam High School Jazz Ensemble takes the stage from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the Fox Lake Community Center.  This 17 piece jazz band will be featuring tunes of the Big Band Era along with some of their very specially arranged number by Director, Rich Zeman.

The cost of a ticket is $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.  That ticket allows you to enjoy the music at the Community Center and the American Legion Club House on Saturday from 1 to 5:30 PM and Sunday from 12:00 to 4:45 PM.  Other bands playing at these times are the Schulz/Hirsch All-Stars, the Vagabond Reeds, and The Bunny Berigan Memorial Band.  Tickets can be reserved by calling 920-928-6094 or emailing julieflemming@yahoo.com
